Decal has become the latest manufacturer to launch an antimicrobial film to support Covid-safe efforts in catering, industrial, retail and transportation environments.

The Portuguese manfucturer’s self-adhesive antimicrobial range is tested to ISO 221196 antibacterial standard. It uses a zinc treatment, rather than the more common silver, which Decal said remains active for up to three years.

“Silver is a heavy metal and we prefer to use non-toxic substances. In our case, we use zinc, a vital substance for the immune system, which is already present in our skin to fight bacteria and viruses,” said Decal COO and business development director Armado Mota.

The two films are Decal overlaminate microbial free R SS 80, a removable PVC film available in clear matte and gloss, for smooth surfaces, and Decal overlaminate microbial free P HT 80, a permanent PVC film with high adhesion. It also comes in clear matt and gloss, but is suitable for a much wider range of surfaces.

The two lamination films are available in the UK from Soyang Europe. While the business specialises in wide-format substrates, Decal said the possible uses for the films stretch beyond traditional wide-format applications.

Mota said that the pricing of the films will be the most competitive in the market.

“The price is associated with product specification and purchase volume. We can guarantee that our microbial free lamination films are the most competitive ones among those that exist on the market.”
