Caldera launches specialist textile printing RIP

French software expert Caldera used last week's Fespa Digital, to launch TextilePro, a new RIP specifically for textile printing which features an RGB workflow.

Caldera is hoping to capitalise on the increasing trend for digitally-printed textiles with its new product, which allows designers to use a Photoshop plug-in for colorising patterns and swapping swatches quickly. TextilePro keeps all colours in RGB, even at ICC profiling level, meaning the final result is closer to the colour intended.

Vice-president marketing Sebastien Hanssens said: “It’s stable, very reliable colour management. The client sees exact colour representation. The plan here is to keep it in RGB as long as possible when you print it out it’s the colour you’re used to. The software manages the colour gamut more accurately and then translates RGB to CMYK.”

He said this was a good feature for textile designers, for whom colour matching is more important. Final proofs can be printed in RGB for approval.

“In signage it’s okay but in design it’s different. They don’t do many proofs. It’s about printing it in the most vibrant colours and it’s also about repeatability, so that colours can be matched over different months,” Hanssens said.

A new user interface also makes it simple for operators to adjust colours and designs, create custom ink sets, calculate and vary ink laydown, with the aim of streamlining much of the decision-making for the user and avoiding common errors.

Caldera works with “all the leading printers” including Mtex and Durst, Hanssens said.
