The ComColor FT series replaces the ComColor FW family in the manufacturer’s portfolio. Using oil-based pigment inks, the new 120ppm A3+ FT5230 replaces the previous FW5230 model.

The other models in the series are the 100ppm A4 FT5000 and the 140ppm A3+ mono FT1430, which both improve on the speeds capable with the FW models that they succeed.

Like Riso’s other inkjet printers, the new machines employ a cold printing process which unlike laser or toner-based printers requires no heat when printing.

Riso told Printweek the printers use new dedicated FT inks, with a black that offers 10% higher density than previous inks while colour reproduction is enhanced through the use of a new cyan ink.

New functions on the FT printers include Poster Print and Scan Job Build, while Riso said the machines are also more efficient and quieter than previous models, with “a noticeable reduction” in operating noise levels.

The FT printers are also compatible with an optional additional 2,000-sheet feeder which, in effect, can double the total sheet capacity of the machines to 4,000 sheets.

The optional feeder can be loaded while the machine is printing, enabling users to print continuously without stopping.

Additionally, the new FG20 Multifunctional Finisher offers benefits to FT printer users with improved stapling, punching and folding productivity. Its bookletmaking performance has also been enhanced compared to previous models, making it possible to create 20-sheet (80pp) booklets.

Commercial availability for the FT series started earlier this month. While pricing was not disclosed, Riso said the machines “continue to be competitive in the market, particularly given their capabilities and the ongoing total cost of ownership, where Riso devices continually lead the way”.
