German print OEM developer DTM Print has launched a colour label printer that features its new ‘Big Ink’ system, which is said to deliver “very low costs per label with outstanding speed and print quality”.

The LX3000e expands the company’s existing LX-Series of desktop full-colour label printers and uses the same platform as the LX910e printer, but with the addition of the Big Ink system – large, individual ink tanks and a reusable thermal inkjet printhead.

The machine features a native 1,200dpi resolution with a maximum print resolution of 1,200x4,800dpi. Labels up to 210mm wide and 610mm long can be printed and the print speed is up to 114mm per second.

Each separate CMY tank holds 60ml of ink. Pre-primed, user-replaceable printheads have another 42ml of ink, for a total of 222ml ‘out of the box’ ink. Both dye and pigment models are available. The company said replacement ink tanks are easy to install without further priming for uninterrupted printing.

The Big Ink system uses dye and pigment inks that are optimised for brightness, durability, and optical density. The latter is particularly high for the LX3000e’s process black, resulting in the blackest black ever released by the company in a CMY printer.

DTM Print said process black has many advantages for labels over the separate carbon black inks used by other colour label printers, including better water resistance, compatibility with a broader range of speciality label media, and more resistance to smearing on high gloss media.

The company said the LX3000e is best suited to users that need to print up to 10,000 labels per day, but that others could also benefit from the low operating costs of the device.

“The LX3000e is a desktop label printer that expands perfectly our portfolio of printing solutions,” said DTM Print managing director Andreas Hoffmann.

“It combines the latest in ink technology, excellent print quality and exceptional low cost per label.”

The LX3000e is compatible with Windows 7, 8x, and 10 while a MacOS printer driver will be available for download in Q3 2021. Interfaces include ethernet and USB 2.0 wired ports.

Shipping for the device will start in “late summer 2021” and the list price is €2,895 (around £2,500). It will be available directly from DTM Print or through its authorised partners, which in the UK are Bannerbridge in Basildon, Essex, and KTEC Technologies in Redditch, Worcestershire.
