Following its appointment as the UK stockist for Arctic's range of coated sheets for the commercial sector, Denmaur Independent Papers has revealed its intention to expand its portfolio further in the coming months.

The paper merchant became the UK Arctic sheets stockist after most of Paperlinx UK, which previously stocked the range, fell into administration. The business said it has further product range expansion plans in the pipeline.

Marketing director Peter Sommerville said: “The industry doesn’t stand still, and our offer must reflect that.

“Thus far in 2015, Denmaur has completely revamped their Figaro+ offer, which now includes a gloss, silk and offset. We will be expanding the portfolio beyond the additional Arctic range, with more on that to follow in a few weeks' time.”

Arctic Silk+ is a white coated paper with a smooth silk surface, which delivers a strong platform for the reproduction of colour images. Arctic Matt is a high-white bulky paper with a natural feel.

Both products, which are manufactured at Arctic Paper’s Grycksbo mill in Sweden, are available from Denmaur with immediate effect, in weights ranging from 90-250gsm.

They are also available in bespoke sizes from mill makings, subject to availability and timings. The broader range includes Arctic Volume in three shades; white, extra white and ivory, which will only be supplied from mill stock or bespoke mill makings.

Arctic Paper UK managing director Rob Slowe said: “We have been close partners with Denmaur for a number of years and this is an excellent fit.”

Sommerville said the range complements Denmaur's existing woodfree coated brands - Amadeus, UPM, Finesse and Figaro.

He said: “The Arctic range adds another important string to the Denmaur bow. Not only are Arctic Paper a renowned supplier, their products are well respected with good levels of whiteness, rigidity, opacity and bulk, which traditionally have been very strong in both the publishing and commercial print sectors.

“The uptake and response we’ve received to date from customers has been very heartening, vindicating the decision which we took to add the products to our stock portfolio.”

Denmaur also opened a new Bristol sales office in January and outlined its intention to grow its turnover by 10% in this financial year.

“The team is growing and settling in, beginning new relationships and building on existing ones. We are really pleased with how the new team has nicely slotted in, hitting the ground running. We have had some excellent results and positive feedback from customers in that area,” said Sommerville.

“In terms of year-on-year growth, I personally think our anticipated 10% growth now seems less of a significant marker following the Paperlinx failure, and this will have to be reviewed again once things have settled down. However, without doubt, the new products will assist the growth of the business.”

Privately-owned and independently-financed Denmaur supplies graphic papers and paper management services to publishers, printers and end users. In 2013/14 the firm, which has more than 80 staff, sold over 170,000 metric tonnes of paper and had a group turnover of £105.1m. The Arctic range is FSC-certified.
