Commercial and wide-format printer One Digital has bought a new Duplo DC-646 slitter-cutter-creaser to boost its productivity and enable it to keep more finishing in-house.
The Brighton-based business spent more than £30,000 on the device, which went into its 604sqm facility last month.
Director Lynn Brazier said: “Amongst other jobs, we print a vast amount of greetings cards and the DC-646 is ideal to cut and crease in one pass, increasing production and shortening turnaround time.
“It also runs the longer sheet size which complements our Xerox iGen 150. The multi-perfing tool is proving to be very popular and is now cost-effective for short runs as there are no dies to be made for box- or cross-perfing. You just set the programme and it will do multiple perfs in one pass.”
The DC-646 will also be used to finish the firm’s litho printing, which comes off a five-colour B2 Heidelberg Speedmaster SM 74 and a B3 Speedmaster SM 52.
The machine is additional to the company’s finishing portfolio, joining a raft of kit that includes a Duplo DC-645 slitter-cutter-creaser, which Brazier called “a good backup that is still used when really busy”.
Brazier and director Steve Poland took over One Digital in 2016. Soon after, the £2m-turnover firm invested in an HP DesignJet Z6800 wide-format printer plus a Duplo bookletmaker.
Last summer the 24-staff business, which serves customers ranging from sole traders to blue-chip companies, installed a Foliant Vega 400A laminator with foiling unit, to bring laminating and foiling in-house.
It also runs a black and white Xerox Nuvera 120, an Epson Stylus Pro 9600 and a Roland Soljet Pro III XJ-740.
Brazier said one of the firm’s three wide-format machines will likely be replaced later this year.
“We are excited about this as it is an area that has been steadily increasing for us over the past 12 months.”
