A high-street print business is celebrating its 25th anniversary and puts its longevity down to competing against – and beating – internet services.
Owner Sorcha Thomson credits the stability of Kall Kwik Romford to the team's “tenacious passion” and its personalised, super-quick service.
“I would like to think we look after our customers: we have good retention and some of those customers have been with us since the beginning.
“We look after the local community and that's the only true way of competing against the internet. We offer a more personal service.
“You are always under pressure with price wars with the internet because they don't have the same overheads but we try to match where we can without being ridiculous.”
She added: “I think we can offer a faster service than the internet and we try to compete on our strengths. Our service has adapted to meet the times. We used to produce stationery and leaflets.
“Now we also offer branded products, e-shots, more digital design and a bit of clothing, which has proved popular. We relocated five years ago and bought instead of leased a much bigger base.”
Kall Kwik Romford's seven staff run litho and digital kit up to SRA3, poster and banner sizes. Litho machines include a two-colour AB Dick 9995A offset press
Digital kit includes a Konica Minolta bizhub Pro C1060 L and bizhub Pro C6000L. Xerox machines include a 6604 wide-format machine with scanner attached and an 8254E. It also runs a Xerox 7142 printer.
“Last year our turnover went up 15% on the year before and we also had our record month for 25 years,” said Thomson.
Her parents, including mum Diane, set up the business in 1990 near Romford train station and invested in new digital equipment.
Kall Kwik managing director Nigel Toplis paid Kall Kwik Romford a visit to congratulate the team on its success.
Thomson said: “It was a lovely surprise to have Nigel pop in armed with bottles of champagne to mark the occasion.
“This company would not exist without clients who believe in us and trust us with their business. To all of them, we would say thank you for your continued support. Here’s to the next 25 years.”
