Barley Print started in 2007 when it took over a calendar business. It installed its own B2 press to produce the calendars and commercial work.

In 2015 the firm went B1 with the ability to print on board up to 700 micron and invested in die-cutting and pack finishing kit. “Whilst we are still strong in commercial print, it’s the investment in niche markets that has helped us to continue to prosper,” says production director Glen Middleton

Barley Print is based in Cuffley in Hertfordshire

How many staff do you have?

45 full-time, with temporary staff brought in at peak periods

What does your firm do? 

Commercial print for direct and trade clients; print and manufacture of a range of business promotional calendars; and print and manufacture of an extensive range of bespoke cardboard packaging solutions

What’s your typical customer?

All types, but with a particular focus on the manufacturing sector

Which areas do you serve?

Mostly London and Home Counties but we have clients across the UK

Which markets do you serve? 

Mostly SMEs and larger organisations

What’s your USP?

Diversity – there are very few printers that can deliver what we can; printing on board up to 700 micron, graining, calendar binding, die-cutting, window patching – it is the specialist services that make us unique

To always deliver on our promises and to excel in both quality and customer service

What’s been your proudest achievement in recent years?

Winning seven national and international awards for our calendars last year

Where do you see your business in five years’ time?

Our aim is to grow to £9m turnover in the next three years

What’s your team’s favourite biscuit?

Chocolate digestive, however we’ve recently discovered a love for Digestive Thins – they’re so thin that it means we can eat more!
