Fujifilm will introduce LED curing technology to its Acuity range of flatbed printers with the upcoming release of the new Acuity LED 40.

The Acuity LED 40 will run with a new LED ink called Uvijet KL

Set for release in the first quarter of 2019, the new machine will be available at the same mid-market price point as its counterparts in the Acuity 20 and Acuity 30 series.

Running with a new LED inkset, Uvijet KL, the LED 40 is available in four-, six- or eight-colour channel configuration, there are options for users to add light inks and varnishes, as well as a white promoted by Fujifilm as its “brightest white UV ink ever”.

An OEM of Canon’s recently-announced Océ Arizona 1300 flatbed printers, the system’s media versatility means that Fujifilm will not limit its target customers to a single market.

EMEA graphic systems product manager Nils Gottfried said: “Over the past few years, LED has generated increasing interest within the flatbed market.

“As the first company in the market to bring LED print systems to the roll-to-roll segment, we are highly experienced in LED curing. The integration of an LED curing system to our flatbed machines is a logical step for us and complements our portfolio perfectly.

“The market for high quality flatbeds is small. Our products have always stood out due to their print quality and ink performance. The release of the Acuity LED 40 will help us to leverage market share.”

The Acuity LED 40 is available in standard configuration with a 1.25x2.5m flatbed, though an X2 model increases the area to 2.5x3.08m. It has the capability to print on a range of rigid and flexible materials at speeds up to 53sqm/hr and has a rated annual output of up to 15,000sqm.

Its LED curing system has around a 10,000-hour lifetime and uses 30% of the power that would be consumed by an Acuity Select 20, according to Fujifilm’s estimates.

Ahead of its commercial release, the Fujifilm Acuity LED 40 made its European show debut at C!Print in Lyon, France, this week.
