Swanline Paper and Board has launched a new environmentally friendly display board range that is 100% fibre-based yet is resistant to moisture.
Introduced to the market over the last few months following 12 months of trials, the business said Cygnus Eco Board can be used as an alternative to foam boards, foam PVC, fluted polypropylene, PE coated materials, HIPS and other plastic composites without cost or performance penalty.
The FSC-certified product is suitable for offset, screen and UV flatbed printing, has “exceptional ink adhesion” and can be digitally or die-cut.
“The whole premise of Swanline Paper and Board is to launch environmentally friendly substrates to replace current plastic solutions,” said Swanline head of group marketing Naomi Martin.
“Cygnus Eco Board is one of three or four ranges that we’ve launched this year that all have high eco credentials.”
The product’s resistance to moisture makes it suitable for temporary outdoor signage and short-term moisture sensitive single-use signage and packaging. Target applications include ‘for sale’ signage, bollard covers, plant pots, product trays, shelf strips and mop trays.
Available in a range of callipers – 310, 430, 520, 830, 1,250, 1,500 and 2,200 micron, the board is fully-recyclable, compostable and biodegradable, meaning it can be disposed of in the normal paperboard waste stream.
“The reaction to the product so far has been fantastic – we’re starting to see some really positive traction,” said Martin.
“We are a trade-only supplier selling to print management companies and the like, and the biggest challenge for us is to drive awareness among the retailers, who can then push it back to the supply chain.”
She added pricing is dependent on customers’ volume and specification requirements.
