HP has launched a new workflow suite for its PageWide series of corrugated presses, One Package, to smooth the transition of corrugated converters into the digital market.

HP's One Package suite supports workflow on the manufacturer's PageWide presses

Described by HP as “the industry’s first ecosystem for digital corrugated printing”, the package is designed to streamline submission and preparation of orders, so users can utilise a variety of digital value-added extras. It will complement both pre- and post-print operations.

Available now, the One Package supports a number of third-party workflow products selected specifically by HP, including MIS and pre-press, colour management tools and cloud-based management applications.

Worldwide director of marketing and business development for HP’s PageWide Industrial division David Murphy said: “Without workflow, a press is just a press. One Package facilitates an ecosystem in which to integrate digital production – a holistic corrugated workflow which customers can use to integrate PageWide into their current setup.

“This will give customers the ability to grow and extend their capabilities to meet market needs. It’s a great incentive to get into digital.”

One Package is built to complement HP’s growing portfolio of PageWide printers, which includes the recently added the 2.8m thermal inkjet pre-print PageWide T1190 and T1170.

The suite incorporates a number of HP workflow utilities, including its Prime and Elite print servers; automation software built on its HP PrintOS Site Flow cloud-based production manager; HP Packaging Colour Studio colour management tools; and a number of sophisticated tools for high-end work such as SmartStream Designer, dynamic personalisation plug-in SmartStream Mosaic and VDP composition tool SmartStream Composer.

A number of third-party products were selected from partners “who are experts and share our vision of integration, collaboration and customer choice”, according to Murphy. These include products from ColorGate, Erhardt & Leimer, Esko, Kiwiplan, PXI Digital and Witron.

More software, both HP and third-party, is expected to be added to the suite over time.

HP, using its own analysis, reported that the total addressable market for digital corrugated packaging will grow from $3.5bn USD (approx. £2.6bn) in 2017 to $5.5bn USD (approx. £4.1bn) in 2022.
