Screen is set to launch two new UV inkjet label presses to expand its offering into food packaging and further strengthen its position within the digital labels sector.
The Truepress Jet L350UV+ and the Truepress Jet L350UV+LM will be launched at – and commercially available from – Labelexpo, which will take place in Brussels from 25 to 28 September. The machines will replace the existing Truepress Jet L350UV system, which was launched in 2013.
Screen said the new printers are a response to customer requests for digital label presses that can accommodate a wider range of substrates while maintaining the high safety levels required for food products.
The L350UV+LM, which is aimed at the food packaging and pharmaceutical label production markets, uses newly developed low-migration inks that the firm said offered enhanced safety.
This press includes a nitrogen purge mechanism for accelerating the curing of UV inks, which is said to further prevent ink migration and UV odour.
The device shares a raft of features with the L350UV+ press, which has been developed for high-end, high-speed label production. This system is said to offer a high level of productivity, substrate compatibility, colour reproduction and operability.
Both new machines print at up to 60m/min onto substrates ranging from 40μm up to a maximum thickness of 350μm. Screen has enabled the reproduction of a wider colour gamut by adding support for a special orange ink to conventional CMYK and white inks.
Each system’s transfer section can also be equipped with an optional chill roller for cooling thin substrates that are particularly susceptible to the heat generated by the UV lamp.
Screen Europe manager of sales and operation coordinator Yui Yamada said: “We held an event last week to preview these machines to VIP customers and there was a great response to them. A lot of customers were really impressed by the quality and speed and the low migration inks.”
Screen did not disclose pricing for the new machines but said that, while they will cost more than the L350UV due to the additional features, there will not be a significant difference in price.
