Mailroom equipment supplier Addressing & Mailing Solutions (AMS) has released new mailing application software for the Grutzmacher Challenger large production inserting system.

AMS is the exclusive UK supplier of the German-manufactured Challenger inserting system

The firm said the software, which is available with immediate effect, is now compatible with Windows 10 and will help printers accurately produce and send out high volumes of personalised mail in the post.

AMS is the exclusive UK supplier of the Challenger inserting system, which is designed and manufactured in Germany by Grutzmacher.

Although the machine’s primary function is to fold and insert letters and brochures into envelopes, the accompanying bespoke software application, which is designed by AMS, enables the device to perform more complex personalisation and variable data printing tasks.

The Challenger system comes with a range of feeder types. It can reach speeds of up to 15,000 items per hour and accommodate envelope sizes from C6 to C4.

The software application works by storing variable data from barcodes and optical recognition marks printed onto envelopes.

It can also create an audit trail database, match against pre-existing databases, check for duplications while tracking mailing pieces and minimise faults.

The software application is free of charge with the purchase of a Challenger system, with systems ranging in price from £30,000 to £300,000.

AMS managing director Kevin McPheat said: “An increasing number of printers come to us looking for solutions of how best to approach some of their clients personalisation requirements.

“As well as resolving many mail processing issues and enabling companies to comply with increasingly tough data protection requirements, the Challenger system gives users cost-effective ways to create large quantities of bespoke, personalised mail.

“With new Windows 10 compatibility, the 64-bit app has ensured the Challenger stays relevant in today’s mailing market.”

The Challenger software was recently used for a major insurance company’s direct mail campaign. The campaign included a personal message printed in colour onto the outer envelope of mailings aimed at drivers.

The Challenger application reads data from the enclosed letter so information personal to the customer could be printed onto the outer envelope. AMS said the campaign had a large impact and generated high response rates.

AMS provides mailroom equipment and consumables to printers, mailing houses and offices that send out postal mailshots. Its products range from envelope and label printers to folding and inserting machines, polywrapping systems and mailing software.
