Warners begins construction on new press hall

Warners Midlands has kicked off the new year by breaking ground for its its third factory – a press and bindery hall.

Planning permission for the new 2,800sqm building was granted in May last year and work began this month with the demolition of the final out-building. The 10-acre site in Bourne, Lincolnshire, already houses two factories covering 8,500sqm and an office space.

It is expected that the new factory will be running by the end of November.

Marketing manager Michael Warner told PrintWeek: “Our overall aim as a company in regard to this investment is to ensure that we have the means to replace old equipment with new more efficient machinery.

“We have carefully selected a new press to be housed within this newest factory that we will be unveiling later on this year. This particular press will be replacing older equipment rather than an increase in capacity.

“In order to thrive within such a competitive market, we believe that it is crucial to maintain and grow our high levels of efficiency by investing in the best equipment for our sector and minimising waste. We will therefore be making best use of our existing site and having a purpose-built new factory for this press is the best way to achieve this.”

The new facility represents Warners’ largest investment since the construction of its previous purpose-built factory in 2006, which now houses two Manroland Lithoman 32pp presses, a Muller Martini Corona perfect binder and two Primera stitching lines.

Boasting web and sheetfed print capabilities alongside pre-press and finishing, Warners has spent more than £10m on equipment since 2014, according to Warner – however, this does not factor in the projected spend for the new factory, which he described as “our most sizable investment in recent years”.

Overseen by managing director Philip Warner, Warners Midlands employs more than 240 members of staff and has sales of £31.9m.
