Glossop Cartons signed up for a new carton-specific MIS system from Imprint-MIS at Drupa.

The packaging specialist provided Imprint with a wish-list and the result was a dedicated carton MIS that ticked all the boxes for Glossop.

“They will be the first customer for this system. They told us exactly what a carton MIS should do and we did a bespoke build,” said Imprint sales and marketing director Wayne Beckett.

Pre-installation preparation work will start this month, ahead of the system being implemented at Glossop’s Stockport base later in the year.

Glossop managing director Brian Sidebottom said: “It’s been built from the ground up with cartons in mind, so it’s made for how we work rather than a generic system.

“It manages things in a very straightforward and simple way, so we can see the results at the click of a button, rather than having to make multiple clicks,” he added.

Sidebottom said one of the key features of the Imprint system was its ability to work with grain direction.

“That’s imperative to us. Some automated packing lines won’t work if the grain direction [on the cartons] is wrong,” he stated.

The 94-staff, circa £10m-turnover firm was announced as the beta site for the new Highcon beam last month. It also bought a new RMGT 10-series press at Drupa.

Imprint-MIS is in hall 10, stand C13-3 at the show.
