Identity has invested nearly 1m in a move to B2, which includes the UK's first Heidelberg CD 74 with CoatingStar.

The Speedmaster CD 74-5L, which will arrive at the end of April, follows the Tunbridge Wells printer's purchase of a Prinance MIS and a Suprasetter 74.

CoatingStar is a coating supply unit which, according to Heidelberg, allows a quick switch between water-based, UV and special coatings.

Identity managing director Kevin Appleton said: "We looked at a straight six-colour, but realised all we'd be doing was sealing, so it was better to get a dedicated coater."

The company will retain two five-colour SM 52s, but said the CD 74 will create extra work from existing customers mainly stationery, brochures and promotional material from London design and advertising agencies and bring in new business.

Appleton added: "The CD is the best machine for the transfer of ink onto paper without marking. Clients have said they want to give us more work."
