Words & Spaces invests in Ryobi press and Heidelberg workflow

Words & Spaces has invested in a new RMGT (Ryobi) 685 five-colour B2 press as well as installing Heidelberg’s Prinect workflow software to strengthen its offering.

The Isle of Man operation installed its new press in early March to replace a four-colour B3 Ryobi machine. It now runs alongside an identical press, which was installed in 2010.

Shortly before the arrival of the new Ryobi, Words & Spaces installed the Prinect workflow in late January to align its Suprasetter A75 plate making system with its Epson colour proofing hardware. As a subscription model, the system will regularly receive automatic updates from Heidelberg.

“We have brought on the new Ryobi to stay competitive,” said managing director Mark Green. “We have been taking on new customers lately and just by nature of having two matching machines we will be able to boost our production.

“Our recurring work includes a monthly magazine for the Isle of Man called Portfolio and we do not want to let these existing clients down while taking on new jobs.

“Taking on Prinect comes out of a good partnership with Heidelberg as they provide the plates run through our Suprasetter. Because it is quite automatic, the software allows our younger, less experienced staff to keep up with the running of our kit alongside our more seasoned employees.”

Words & Spaces’ Prinect package is full workflow setup with print colour management to drive its Epson proofers, using a suite of programs including Prinect Prepress Manager, Prinect Colour Proof Pro and Prinect Portal.

A “jack of all trades” print shop serving the Isle of Man with general commercial print from business cards to complex brochures, Words & Spaces runs a technology portfolio which includes a Konica Minolta BizHub C1085 digital system, an Epson SureColor SC-80600 wide-format proofing system and a selection of finishing equipment from Horizon.

The £1.2m-turnover firm employs 12 staff.
