Kent-based Wallace Print has rounded off a successful year by investing £150,000 of its cashflow into purchasing its previously leased premises.

The Rochester firm completed the deal to buy the 1,115sqm unit in October. Last year it had added a 20sqm mezzanine floor to the facility, which it has occupied for the past 15 years.

Managing director Gary Wallace said: “It’s huge for the stability of the company. At the moment we’re changing the factory around, putting double-glazing in and knocking the front offices through so the sales team can grow.

“We’re also going to extend the mezzanine floor and put glass offices up with a boardroom and various other rooms.”

The company is also in the process of implementing a new MIS system before Christmas.

“We’ve got a consultant in looking at that now and once it’s in it will release 40% of the work that my sales team do and the workflow regarding duplication. It’s going to lead to more sales and more growth,” said Wallace.

The business has also continued to increase its focus on its website and e-commerce platform, which now accounts for around 50% of its annual turnover.

“Across the board we’re winning a huge amount of work via the internet and through our website. The web is an incredible tool and that’s why I’m looking to get someone in to manage our web side and our SEO,” said Wallace.

The firm’s next planned move is to invest in a fourth flatbed printer to add to its existing Canon Océ Arizona 250 GT wide-format printer, installed in December 2012, and two Fuji Acuity Advance machines.

The business is hoping to secure a Regional Growth Fund grant to help with its plans and allow it to take on three to five apprentices to enable it to give opportunities to young people in the local area.

The family-run company, which offers screen, litho, digital and finishing services, currently has 22 staff and is anticipating a turnover of around £2.7m for the current financial year, up from £2.2m last year.

It produces items including POS, banners, exhibition stands, signage and outdoor displays for a wide range of customers.
