The Hull-based packaging design and pre-press specialist installed the VeloBlade Volta 69+ last week at its nine-strong Trident Creative Group operation, where the services include product prototypes, mock-ups and samples as well as design and creative CGI.

“We’ve always had digital die-cutting but the VeloBlade is far superior – the team are absolutely delighted with it and what it can offer,” said Nicola Anderson, global subject matter expert at the operation.

“It’s almost like another member of the team in terms of what it can offer with the speed and its capabilities. It’s a brilliant addition to our services.”

The Volta 69+ has a 600x900mm bed and can cut material up to 10mm thick, handling a wide range of materials from paper and card to labels, foam board and corrugated board.

It can cut, crease and perforate in a single pass.

Anderson also praised the Volta’s ease of operation. “The full team were all trained up in one day, it’s so easy to use and the team love it.”

The Trident Creative Group also runs a HP Indigo 5600 digital press, Roland VersaUV LEC printer-cutter, and various laminating and foiling devices.

“The beauty of the service we offer is the customer can have one sample of a mock-up, or hundreds or thousands if they want them,” Anderson added.

“We get involved with a lot of top secret development work and it’s very exciting when products are launched and we’ve played a part in bringing it to life. It’s a fantastic department to be involved with.”

Anderson said Trident was in the process of taking the creative services offering global, which means the Hull setup will be mirrored in other locations around the world.

The group has 11 full-service locations around the world in North and South America, Asia and Australasia. It works for a wide range of leading consumer goods companies including Procter & Gamble, Diageo and Merck.
