Synertec in record £5m Canon deal

Synertec has initiated a record Canon imagePress deal with the installation of 85 imagePress C850s, worth £5m over the next three years.

The communication specialist is now the world’s single biggest user of the imagePress C850 colour system and all machines have now been installed, with 84 split 50/50 between production sites in Bristol and Warrington and one going to its Wellington, Somerset headquarters.

After a 15-month negotiation period, Synertec now expects sales to grow more than 20% per year, and is currently producing around 14m impressions per month across the machines.

Managing director Mark Baldock said that Synertec's “rapid growth” had created the need to re-evaluate its print offering and that the firm was already seeing three-hours-a-day time savings in productivity.

“We needed to expand capacity and invest wisely. The Canon systems give us massive increases in productivity, improved efficiencies and more throughput,” said Baldock.

“Canon came out top in every set of criteria and we’ve been delighted with how this partnership has progressed. The speed of response, knowledge and professionalism of the teams has been outstanding.”

Duncan Smith, Canon director of industrial and production solutions, described the deal as being a perfect example of Canon’s collaborative approach.

“We’ve learned a significant amount from working closely with Synertec as their customers require personalised content, short print runs, just-in-time print delivery and greater cost-effectiveness,” he said.

Launched in September 2016, the 85ppm C850 can print up to 500,000 A4ppm at maximum 2,400dpi quality. It supports a variety of paper types, at weights of between 52gsm and 300gsm. Earlier this year, Canon added the entry-level C650 to its imagePress series.

With more than 500 clients across various industries, Synertec specialises in printing, folding and mailing, along with the distribution of private sector and NHS critical communication.
