St Bride's Church shares seasonal service via YouTube
Thursday, December 17, 2020
St Bride’s Church is live-streaming its annual Fleet Street Carols service, and there’s still a chance to see it later today.
The service features the renowned St Bride’s Choir singing in a socially-distanced arrangement.
A service has already been shown at noon, with a second service scheduled for 5pm today (17 December).
The link to the YouTube live-stream at 5pm is here.
The Order of Service can be downloaded here.
Introducing the noon service, the Reverend Canon Dr Alison Joyce, rector of St Bride’s, said she understood that for many people who would usually attend in person, the church’s carol services felt like the beginning of Christmas.
St Bride’s also explained that the choir and its readers, drummer and clergy had come together in advance to video the service, which is then streamed “as live” as the upload is shown for the first time.
In the absence of the traditional collection plate, it’s also possible to make a donation towards the upkeep of the historic St Bride’s Church, designed by Sir Christopher Wren, to support its work and ministry.
St Bride’s said its ability to raise funds to maintain its ministry and buildings had been “seriously impacted” by the Covid-19 situation, as had its choir.
“These freelance professional musicians have been severely affected and we have been supporting them financially while they are not able to perform,” St Bride’s explained.
To donate £5, £10 or £20 text 5STBRIDES or 10STBRIDES or 20STBRIDES to 70470.
There is also a JustGiving page.
Although the Church has reopened under Covid-secure guidelines, it cannot safely accommodate all the people who would normally attend its Christmas services, and the limited number of places have to be booked in advance.
