St Austell Printing Company (SAPC) is set to appear on Channel 4 next week to showcase its high-profile work on the Top Trumps brand as part of a special film on toy production.

The Secret World of Toys at Christmas will be broadcast at 7pm on Monday (23 December), with the Cornwall operation making an appearance to demonstrate the production process of the Top Trumps line of playing cards, a contract with games company Winning Moves for which SAPC produces two million units per year.

As part of its segment, which will be shown alongside other famous brands such as Crayola, SAPC will be demonstrating the printing technology required to produce a pack of the cards, including its specialised Rollem finishing line which was built to spec especially for the work.

SAPC marketing and communications manager Matt Bunt told Printweek: “Our contract with Winning Moves is a big one for us and we are very proud to have it, we love working on the Top Trumps.

“The TV production team came onsite for a day to film our process, while they also filmed with Winning Moves to talk about the processes of generating ideas and licensing brands and properties for their products.”

Filming took place at SAPC on 31 October, covering the pre-press, printing and finishing stages of the process.

The broadcast comes at the end of a significant year for SAPC, which has seen it win four awards for its sustainability including the Printweek Awards’ Environmental Printer of the Year.

It has also finally brought all production in-house at its 930sqm facility, allowing it to attain full Made in Cornwall accreditation from the local council.

St Austell Printing Company employs 36 full-time staff and a further 19 part-time, covering litho and digital print, as well as fulfilment and mailing.
