To celebrate the early kick-off of the 2022/23 English and Welsh football season, Roland DG has partnered with concept kit designer Andy Slater to produce a football shirt featuring the colours of all 92 clubs featured in the four leagues.

The shirt designed by Slater features a combination of 100 unique colours.

“The design is inspired by a style I've adapted over time, taking iconic vintage shirts and putting a modern twist on them,” said Slater.

Part of the brief for the project, dubbed ‘The 92 Kit Project’, was to showcase the colour capabilities of Roland DG’s Texart XT-640 high-volume dye-sub printer.

The sub-£18,000 eight-colour, 1.6m-wide printer is designed for creating polyester sportswear, fashion fabrics and apparel and soft signage.

“Launched in time for the highly anticipated 22/23 season and during a very memorable year for football, it [The 92 Kit Project] is the perfect way to highlight the capabilities of the Texart XT-640,” said Stephen Davis, Roland DG EMEA marketing director.

“The XT-640’s advanced print control technology produces stunning sharp image quality and brilliant vivid colour.”

Roland commissioned 15 shirts to be produced by sportswear manufacturer and retailer Akuma Sports, which runs a Texart XT-640 at its Warwickshire manufacturing base. The shirts were then sent to 15 journalists a few days before the season openers.

The English and Welsh season official begins tonight with Birmingham City kicking off their match against Huddersfield Town at 7.45pm and Crystal Palace, which is chaired by former Tag Worldwide chief executive Steve Parish, taking on Arsenal at Selhurst Park at 8pm.

The season starts earlier this year to accommodate the 2022 FIFA World Cup, which takes place in Qatar from 21 November to 18 December 2022.
