Previously, the range was PEFC accredited due to International Paper’s French Saillat mill, where Pro-Design is produced, being close to PEFC certified forests, where materials for production are sourced.

International Paper country manager UK Mike Robertson said: "For the past few years we have been working closely with some of our suppliers to have their forests FSC certified so we can source FSC certified wood.

"This would enable us to certify some of our value added grades as FSC to answer the growing requests for FSC certified products in markets such as the UK, Germany and Benelux."

The change from PEFC to FSC is now being implemented across the entire Pro-Design range of A4, A3, SRA3 and Xeikon reels paper grades and is expected to be complete by March 2013.

Pro-Design’s 350gsm heavy weight stock was the first to attain FSC accreditation at its launch in August 2012.

The range already carries EU Ecolabel accreditation due to its high environmental performance and its main suppliers are just 150km from the Saillat mill, reducing the CO2 emissions and transport-related environmental damages.

The paper manufacturer claims that the Saillat mill is one of the world’s best performing sites in terms of CO2 emissions, and has reduced its greenhouse gas emissions by 78% since 1990.
