Pelican Print buys into large format with new Roland press and staff

Pelican Print has made its foray into the large-format arena after investing in a six-colour Roland SolJet Pro III XC-540.

The Buckinghamshire commercial printer is aiming to pursue new markets with the press, two years after the firm bought into digital with an HP Indigo 5000.

The 36-staff company now produces a range of large-format print including roll-up banners, pop-ups, posters and outdoor signage.

Scott Brookes, joint managing director of Pelican Print, hopes the machine "will open up new markets" to the printer.

"We can now go a large-format client and offer our litho and digital services and vice versa. It helps us offer a more integrated service" he said.

The company has also hired a new employee to handle the new Roland Press, which joins a press battery that includes the HP Indigo and two Komori B2 presses.

Brookes added: "Our customers appreciate our high standards, quality control and attention to detail, something we can now offer for large-format exhibition products."

The Roland SolJet Pro III XC-540 can print at a maximum speed of 441sqft an hour at a resolution of 1440x1440dpi.
