Overmatter: tempura-ray setback

Our excitement that one of print’s own could carry off the Masterchef trophy at the end of the show’s new season has proved to be sadly short-lived.

Bermondsey boy and experienced print technician Terry Connell will be a familiar face to customers of Bluprint UK, where he can often be found working as an expert demonstrator. Terry made it through the arduous audition process and won a place on the show, but sadly his mushroom and blue cheese risotto with tempura vegetables failed to find favour with judges John Torode and Gregg Wallace.

“I come from a family of printers, but I’ve always cooked and I fancy a bit of cheffing,” a disappointed Terry explained. “It took a lot of effort and a lot of waiting to get on there – it takes months.”

His early ejection also means that we don’t get to see the other delicious-sounding dishes he had been planning to prepare: a crab and mussel soup, belly of pork, and a ‘piña colada’ bread and butter pudding with pineapple and coconut. Yum!

“I really wanted to do the belly pork because everyone who tries it on Masterchef fails, but I’ve cracked it,” he added.

We’re very sorry his big TV moment was only tempura-ray.
