New year predictions: Mark Young, Route One Print

While Mark Young, head of Route One Print, isn’t set to get his perfect print pressie until after Christmas, that doesn’t mean he’s any less excited about its arrival from Israel.

What trend (business or technology) do you think 2018 will be remembered for?
The rise of digital technology. As a business, we’ve talked a lot about this shift during 2018 but, really, the growth of the equipment in this sector has been incredible this year. It is extremely exciting that the shift from print-to-warehouse to print-on-demand is upon us. As is, of course, the increase in quality and turnaround speeds that digital presses can offer our customers.

What do you think will represent the single biggest opportunity for printers in 2019 and why?
In 2019, we are continuing our focus on understanding our customers and shaping our offering around them. We’re looking forward to adapting and growing in all areas - from product ranges to web changes.

What was your highlight of 2018?
For me, it would have to be the opportunity to travel to Israel and meet the team at Landa. Seeing the area where they operate from and getting an understanding of how the press works has made me really excited for the delivery our S10P.

What are your hopes for 2019?
As a company, we want to continue growing but we want to do this by giving our customers the best possible offering - whether this be making changes to the way we operate to introducing new technology or even launching a lightweight Kraft stock (hint).

What was the best piece of advice you have ever been given?
My dad always taught me you get out what you put in, I guess that’s a good piece of advice. Hard work and determination really makes a difference.

What’s your favourite Christmas cracker joke?
Which side of the turkey has the most feathers? The outside.

What was the best Christmas present you ever received?
A Power Rangers Megazord, I received it last year! Joking, I think I was around 5 years old and it was amazing!
