The packages from Prepress UK, which were installed in May, help optimise all PDF and image files to reduce ink coverage and standardise colour.
PWPFS, based in Hoddesdon, Hertfordshire, runs a Heidelberg CD 74 press, with digital print jobs going through its Kodak NexPress machine.
The 28-staff company makes a £2.4m turnover from print ranging from mono stationery to full-colour posters for clients including Gatwick Airport and British Dental Association.
Digital print manager Alex Andrews said the software cuts ink usage by anything from 2% to 15% per job. “It also saves on makeready times," he added.
“PDFs from the customer can often comprise of a mix of RGB and CMYK files. By running them through PressSave we have found poor tints are converted correctly to the required percentage of black.”
PressProfiler examines digital files received from any workflow and generates ink key pre-setting data to save time setting-up an offset litho printing press at job changeover.
Accurate ink key pre-setting gives a shorter makeready, uses fewer run-up sheets, and takes less time before correct colour is achieved on the press.
Director Steve Donoghue added: “We have noticed an improvement in press set-up time since the arrival of PressProfiler.
“The improved makeready has allowed us to reach saleable printed sheets quickly, reducing waste as a result.”
