Navigator prices to go up this month

Navigator: aiming for "acceptable levels of profitability"
Navigator: aiming for "acceptable levels of profitability"

The Navigator Company  has announced a Europe-wide price increase of 6%.

The Portuguese papermaker said the increase would be effective from 27 September.

“The present context on the demand side, with record high order books and supply limitations and disruptions supports this margin recovery movement along the value chain,” the firm stated.

The Navigator Company said the industry overall had been “operating within a framework of unacceptable margins to remunerate capital, which jeopardises its future sustainability” since the beginning of the pandemic.

It said that rising prices for raw materials, logistics, energy and CO2 throughout this year had “brought even more pressure to these margins”, forcing the business to raise prices “to recover acceptable levels of profitability”.

Navigator brands include Discovery, Explorer, Inacopia, Inaset, Pioneer, Soporset and Target and the eponymous Navigator.

The group is Europe's biggest manufacturer of bleached eucalyptus pulp and lays claim to a leading position in European uncoated printing and writing paper.

Paper, ink and plate makers have announced multiple price rises, or surcharges, this year.
