MPC Print Solutions status unclear

Confusion surrounds the trading status of commercial printer MPC Print Solutions, with speculation that the firm is in the process of filing for liquidation.

PrintWeek understands that the Lockfield Avenue, Enfield-based business closed its doors on Friday 16 June, with the majority of its workforce made redundant the same day.

It’s unclear how many staff remain at the firm.

However, it is understood that insolvency practitioner Andrew Dix of LB Insolvency is acting on behalf of the company but has not been formally appointed as liquidator.

LB Insolvency was unavailable for comment at the time of writing and would only confirm that MPC Print Solutions is not currently in liquidation.

MPC Print Solutions celebrated its 25th anniversary last year and in a PrintWeek article written at the time, managing partner Tony Crook said the firm employed 70 staff.

According to its website the circa £6.5m-turnover firm ran a 12-colour Speedmaster SM 102 with CutStar, which it inherited when it acquired fellow Enfield-based printer The Press in 2015, and a five-colour plus coat Speedmaster XL 75 and HP Indigo 5600 that were installed last year when it relocated from MPC’s factory in Barnet to The Press’s facility in Enfield. The £2m move and kit investment, which involved enlarging The Press’s factory, was completed last May.

According to one former employee, the speed of the closure was a surprise.

“We knew things weren’t great, but we thought we were working through it.

“So to be told it was closing the same day we were due to be paid was a double blow.”

Crook had not responded to several requests for comment at the time of writing.

Last Thursday, the company’s phone number was briefly redirected to Elle Media Group in Basildon, however it is now being answered as MPC Print Solutions once more.

Elle Media Group declined to comment on the current status of MPC Print Solutions.

MPC Print Solutions is totally unrelated to fellow Enfield-based Magazine Printing Company, which is sometimes known as MPC. Magazine Printing Company was acquired by Merthyr Tydfil magazine printer Stephens & George Print Group last summer.
