Mimaki unveils latest UV inkjet printer

Mimaki has launched its latest 60in UV-curable inkjet printer, the UJV-160, designed for display, outdoor signage and vehicle-wrapping applications.

The roll-to-roll large-format machine uses UV-LED curing technology that allows for printing on heat-sensitive substrates, such as PVC.

The press eliminates the need for excessive heat and emission of infrared rays by incorporating LED lamps, which emit UV rays that the firm claimed consume less than half the power of standard UV lamps.

Mimaki's new machine also prints using a new flexible ink, developed in conjunction with 3M, which allows for printing on cured ink membranes, used in vehicle wrapping applications.

Kazuyuki Takeuchi, IP Division at Mimaki, said: "Mimaki, as a pioneer of inkjet printers for outdoor signage, is now providing another breakthrough solution, together with 3M, another pioneer in the sign and graphics industry."

He added: "We believe that this new technology, developed by Mimaki, contributes to both our customers' and the industry’s future success by offering a highly environmentally friendly solution."
