Large-format print company Macro Art has found itself in the Guinness Book of Records after printing the worlds biggest advent calendar.

Produced for Coca-Cola, the giant calendar has been erected in Birminghams Victoria Square. It measures 54x18m and was produced in less than two days.

The job included a screen to conceal the calendar while it was being erected and further graphics to cover the pedestrian fencing around the site a total of around 2,000m2.

Macro Art produced the job on its recently purchased Scitex Vision Grandjet S5, which joined the firms four Vutek machines at the end of October.

"We couldnt have done it without the speed of the Grandjet," said Macro Art director John Walker.

At the same time it was printing the calendar it also produced another 1,000m2 job for a site in Leeds and 900m2 of truck curtains using its Vutek machines.

The Grandjet was originally bought for printing on textiles, which Walker sees as a lucrative niche market.

"Vutek makes excellent machines, but the Grandjet fits that niche," he said.

Despite increasing competition in the extra-large-format market, Macro Art said it had enjoyed a successful year.

"Id never have guessed Id be investing to increase capacity at the beginning of the year," said Walker. "Ive got a full order book."

The firm is also involved in a huge multi-site project that will be revealed early next year.
