Logoshack targets POS market following £110k investment

Stoke-on-Trent vinyl graphic specialist Logoshack is targeting the POS market after investing £110,000 in new equipment, including its first digital flatbed cutter.

The 15-staff firm has installed a Zünd S3 L-1200 modular cutting system, equipped with a universal cutting tool, kiss-cutting tool and router, to enable it to finish POS items in-house.

Managing director Phil Davies said: "Our POS operation was limited before because we couldn't cut polycarbonate and we couldn't cut intricate shapes. That meant we had to outsource it, which increases delivery time and costs.

"We can print digitally up to 2m wide but most of the work we do is up to 1.6m, which means we can take it off the printer and put it straight through the Zünd. We've got a Roland printer-cutter as well but we use that solely for printing now because the Zünd is so quick."

Logoshack also has a Fuji Acuity Advance, installed in 2012, and a new Mimaki JV400-160SUV hybrid printer, which was purchased as part of the firm's current £110,000 equipment upgrade, as well as a number of Kippax screen printing presses.

Davies said: "Having the Zünd also means we don't have to spend £150 a time on cutting forms, which we used to have to do for anything screen printed that wasn't square, because we can just print the dots for the optical register system on the Zünd to pick up."

He added that the firm's new Mimaki solvent UV printer gave "the best of both worlds" as it is "economical to run, the quality is excellent, the speed is good. There's no smell and it's so quiet - it's like a Rolls Royce".

Zünd UK sales director Peter Giddings added: "We're pleased to welcome Logoshack as a customer and are looking forward to seeing the company diversify with the S3's help.

"With its modular tooling system Logoshack will be able to move easily into the POS arena and beyond; many S3 users look to packaging for an additional revenue source, for example."
