Killer app: Taylor Bloxham helps re-inter Richard’s royal remains

King Richard III’s remains were famously discovered under a council car park in Leicester in 2012. His historic reburial took place at Leicester Cathedral last month and a number of local businesses, including the Taylor Bloxham Group, supported the King Richard III Appeal by taking part in various events held to mark the occasion.

What did the job entail?

The Taylor Bloxham Group printed the orders of service for all three Leicester Cathedral services free of charge. The firm sourced the paper from paper merchant and manufacturer Fedrigoni which, due to the occasion, agreed to supply the paper at a reduced cost. Both companies’ logos featured on the orders of service. “As a long-standing Leicestershire company we were thrilled to be able to offer our services and keen to offer our expertise in print to help support the appeal,” said Taylor Bloxham Group chief executive Chris Bowen. Additionally, one of the firm’s press operators, Barrie Johnson, a former member of the Territorial Army and a current member of the Midlands branch of the Royal Army Medical Corps Association, served as an honour guard for the King at Leicester Cathedral. 

How was it produced?

The orders of service were printed using a five-colour B2 Heidelberg Speedmaster press onto Fedrigoni Arcoprint Milk; the cover on 300gsm stock and the text pages on 150gsm stock. Oxidising inks were used for the three Pantone colours used on the covers. They were then cut, folded, saddle-stitched with two gold wires and hot foiled in gold on a Johannesburg foiling press. 15,000 orders of service were printed in total; 5,000 for each service.

What challenges were overcome?

The job’s strict schedule could not be deviated from. Drying was another potential issue and the business had to ensure that the cover material did not crack. “We had strict quality control checks to ensure a spotless finish to each and every order of service and that the whole job ran according to the given deadline,” said Bowen.

What was the feedback? 

“The client thought the finished books were great and they were extremely pleased with them. They were very complimentary to us regarding our level of commitment and service; this demonstrated a fantastic team effort,” said Bowen.
