Interprint buys DigiFav to bring laminating in-house

Interprint has brought its laminating in-house after buying a Bagel Systems B2 DigiFav laminator.

The Swindon-based litho and digital printer bought the laminator, which was installed at its 372sqm premises in January, for around £25,000 from Terry Cooper Services. It had seen continually increasing demand for lamination with its B2 litho work.

"We previously outsourced all of our binding. The benefits of bringing it in-house are greater control over production, quality and costs and more flexibility," said operations director Andrew Hatcher.

"Turnaround times were being affected as we were having to wait for the work to be sent out and completed. We can now be more competitive and have better control over our production schedules."

The company researched the market and also looked at alternatives from other companies, including Autobond.

"We’d been considering buying a laminator for the past three years but had been waiting for something special," said Hatcher. "The DigiFav is easy to use, has a strong build and a small footprint, which is essential as space is pretty tight here."

The DigiFav, which runs at up to 22m/min, is operated via a touchscreen interface. It is designed to support quick changeovers and also features automatic temperature and pressure adjustments.

Interprint has 20 staff and a turnover of £1.6m. It offers direct mail and exhibitions and signage services to predominantly design agencies and blue chip companies.

The firm runs a five-colour B2 Komori press and three Ricoh digital presses. It is looking to invest further in its digital side over the next few years.
