ImageData Brighton boosts booklet making with Duplo

ImageData Group’s Brighton site has bolstered its bookmaking capabilities with the introduction of a Duplo DBM600i system.

Delivered in mid-October, the new addition replaces a Duplo 350 bookletmaker, as an upgrade to the Brighton site's capabilities.

With the 600i, which is faster and can handle thicker and larger booklets than its predecessor, ImageData Brighton is able to respond to increasing client demand for the A4 landscape format and bring in-house a number of requirements previously outsourced.

Operations director Jason Vivian said: “We are a Xerox house when it comes to our digital printing and our long-standing relationship with Duplo goes back 30 years largely because of their machines’ ability to better cope with a digital output than others in the market.

“The new 600i allows us to do anything from the smallest booklet right up to A4 landscape, as well the fact it is quicker making us more productive. It also allows us to take on orders for thicker books when previously we would have to negotiate clients down to a lighter stock if they wanted a higher page count.

“It is an upgrade from what we had previously and will be able to keep up with a lot of firepower from our digital printing department.”

The Duplo DBM600i system can run at a maximum speed of 5,200 booklets/hr on paper stocks from 64-300gsm. It takes a maximum sheet size of either 350x508mm or 230x610mm. ImageData has installed it with additional DDM600 fore-edge trimmer and DSF6000 digital sheet feeder modules.

It will run alongside a gamut of Xerox digital printers which comprises two iGen 5s, two Nuveras and a Versant. The site also runs a full portfolio of finishing kit with the exception of die-cutting.

When die-cutting is required, it is often outsourced to a local print finisher that Vivian said his team enjoys a “close relationship” with, or to ImageData’s site in Howden, East Yorkshire.

ImageData runs across three sites, with its headquarters and litho/screen production in Willerby, East Yorkshire. The group turns over in excess of £20m.

The Brighton branch covers 1,670sqm of floorspace and employs 23 members of staff.
