Heidelberg has launched a new online knowledge platform for labelmakers to provide insight on technology developments and market trends.

Developed with the manufacturer’s labels subsidiary Gallus, Label Experts is live now with 10 video walkthroughs for flexo label printing, covering applications from simple to complex.

Heidelberg said the free service will be expanded as its user base grows, with a key focus set to be digital inkjet label printing, as well as environmental concerns around the carbon footprint of print operations.

John Hopkins, Gallus Label product executive for Heidelberg UK, said: “All of this information is available at different ports of call and, through this portal, you can access everything in one place.

“One of the biggest changes in the market right now has been the move to short-run, quick-turnaround jobs that is largely fuelled by digital. Last year was the first year that our digital sales overtook our conventional sales so we will be putting content out to show traditional printers what is on offer in the newer market.

“I have worked for Gallus and Heidelberg for nearly 13 years, and for Nilpeter for a long time before that, and I have been waiting for something like this for a long time to assist our clients in the technical side of label printing. It is the way forward.”

Interested parties can sign up for the service now.

Content to be uploaded in due course will cover trends such as customisation and localisation, as well as embellishments and special effects.

Resources currently awaiting users are newsletters, technical articles, up-to-date market research, white papers and tips for new investments.

A section titled ‘Our favourite label’ will showcase examples of creative label design.
