GF Smith colour becomes cool frames

GF Smith has collaborated with luxe British eyewear manufacturer Cubitts on a limited edition sunglass, inspired by the papermaker’s ‘World’s Favourite Colour’ project.

GF Smith is headquartered in Hull, and the result of its colour preference project was originally unveiled during Hull’s tenure as City of Culture in 2017. The survey determined Marrs Green to be the World’s Favourite Colour, and it became part of the firm's Colorplan range of papers.

Cubitts has used the hue for the new Eastcastle frame, which is named after the street where GF Smith’s Show Space is located in London.

Cubitts product designer Emily Lynch said the design included inspiration from paper forms: “The design mirrors the blocky lines of a ream of A4 and is our first frame designed specifically as sunglasses, inspired by the vibrant shades of GF Smith’s ‘The World’s Favourite Colour’ report.

“The bespoke Marrs Green acetate was custom made for us by our acetate factory, Mazzucchelli, to match Marrs Green Colorplan paper.”

The limited edition of 135 handmade sunglasses also come with a Marrs Green cleaning cloth made from recycled bottles.

Cubitts has also made the frame in black and dark turtle colourways.
