Flint Group has launched the first in a new series of UV low-migration inks designed for the sheetfed and web offset packaging markets, that will be brought to market throughout 2017.
The UltraCura Sens, Sens Plas and Sens Base inks are formulated from what the manufacturer calls a new resin technology system, which Flint Group’s global product management director for Energy Curing inks, Trevor Amps, said would be the platform on which all future energy curing systems from Flint would be based.
“We decided to use specifically selected resin principles for all our energy curing products, with common, balanced pigmentation levels. This will increase stability and performance consistency across our entire energy curing range,” he said.
Available immediately, the low-odour, low-migration process UltraCura Sens inks are designed to be used on food packaging applications where there is no direct food contact. They are suitable for coated and uncoated papers and boards while Plas can be used on plastics as well.
According to the manufacturer the inks’ properties include excellent adhesion, good ink-water stability, good rub resistance, high colour strength, fast curing speed and good press stability.
The formula has been developed to adhere to EU-regulations 1935/2004 and 2023/2006 that relate to food packaging requirements, as well as the EuPia guidance for printing inks on non-contact surfaces of food packaging.
Amps added: “The packaging print market is a very fluid environment where our customers’ needs often change and innovation has become part of the landscape and with continuing updates in regulations and the re-classification of raw materials, we’re driven to future proof our products and to develop a portfolio at the cutting edge of production performance.”
