Double Indigo spend for Baker
Monday, March 13, 2017
Trade label printer Baker Labels has installed two HP Indigo WS6800 Digital Presses.
The machines, Baker’s sixth and seventh Indigo purchases in the past decade, were installed at its 2,800sqm premises in late January and replace two older Indigos that have been traded in, a WS4050 and a WS6600. They join an existing WS6800, which was the first to be purchased in the UK.
“Lead times have got to start reducing and we want to have spare capacity, to have consistency across the board with the digital presses and make it easier to manage,” said Baker managing director Steve Baker.
“We’ve been running the same presses for a few years now. It’s not as if it’s new to us, it’s a far more stable platform, probably one of the best web presses that Indigo has made, so it’s a good consistent press and we like the features and like the results coming out of it."
The WS6800 prints at 60m/min in one-colour or two-colour mode and 40m/min in Enhanced Productivity Mode (EPM). It prints at a maximum resolution of 2,438dpi High Definition Imaging (HDI), taking media weighing between 60gsm and 400gsm.
“It has allowed us to take on more work due to speed. It’s a matter now of going off and finding that work. We remain a trade printer so it’s more the speed of the turnaround that will win us the work.”
Baker also said he would be attending Label Expo later this year, where he will be looking at embellishments and other finishing options.
Founded in 1963, the 60-staff outfit turns over just shy of £8m. It also runs a 2015-installed Screen Truepress Jet L350UV label press, a Nilpeter FB-3 flexo press and also has insertion, foiling and embossing capabilities.
It produces a wide range of bespoke self-adhesive and non-self-adhesive labels for trade customers.
