Dennis expands with acquisition

Publisher Dennis Publishing has added to its current affairs division with the acquisition of MoneyWeek, a leading financial title.

The magazine had been published by Agora Publishing since 2003 and now joins the group’s flagship The Week magazine, along with The Week Junior, as publications within its current affairs division.

MoneyWeek, which had a weekly circulation of 46,498 in the period July to December 2016, was founded in 2000 by The Week founder Jolyon Connell and its current editor-in-chief Merryn Somerset Webb, who is staying on as editor along with John Stepek.

Editorial staff are moving across to The Week’s London premises. It is unclear at the moment where the magazine will be printed.

Dennis chief executive James Tye said MoneyWeek was the perfect addition to its growing current affairs portfolio.

MoneyWeek already shares some of The Week’s editorial DNA, so it will be a perfect companion to other titles in the portfolio and greatly increase our opportunities in the key financial services market. With such a natural fit between the titles, there will be many ways in which we can cross promote MoneyWeek to both readers and advertisers.”

Dennis publishes a large number of magazines from within its three other divisions: automotive, lifestyle and technology In late 2016 it ceased publication of its free weekly Coach magazine, placing 15 jobs at risk.
