Delga Group has invested heavily in two new HP Indigo 7900s and four new Duplo 600i Booklet Systems.

The group installed the two Indigos in April at its Aylesford-based CSP site, which mainly focuses on public sector work. CSP also took one of the booklet systems, with the other three installed at Delga’s main site in Rochester, Kent, in the past two weeks.

The two Indigos replaced two five-year-old Indigo 5900s, which had come to the end of their lease. The booklet systems replaced four Duplo DBM 5000 BookletMakers.

Over the coming weeks, the group will also be replacing its Agfa workflow system with a Fujifilm XMF Workflow.

Ian Conetta, who was appointed managing director last year when CSP rebranded from Collector Set, said the Indigos were “natural enhancements”.

“It was time for us to revisit equipment that we had and again it’s one of those things that I’d call a partnership,” he said.

“HP’s service offerings have been great, they have served us well and the machines have served us well."

Running at a maximum speed of 160ppm in enhanced productivity mode, the Indigo 7900 prints at a maximum resolution of 2,438dpi, which Conetta said was a driving factor in the purchasing process.

The 600i is a fully automated stitching, folding and trimming device that uses ultrasonic technology combining the DSC-10/60i Collator Towers and the DBM-600 bookletmaker and trimmer. Each of Delga’s new machines have been installed with twin towers and a DKT-200 two-knife trimmer, with the system in CSP’s premises the only in the UK to have been fitted with a two-hole punch configuration.

“This was just a natural replacement cycle. They were fit for purpose for the work that both businesses have,” added Conetta.

With job changeover times of less than a minute, the machine can reach speeds of up to 5,200bph. It can handle a maximum booklet size of 350x254mm and stock weights of 50-300gsm.

Conetta believed each of the old DBM 5000s had had around 14 million to 15 million impressions.

Duplo marketing manager Sarah Crumpler said: “He had an incredibly high click rate, specifically over the period the clicks were gained. It would definitely be one of the highest usages in the UK."

Delga Group, which recently restructured its board, has 150 staff, 100 at Delga Press and 50 at CSP.

Conetta said: “Despite industry reservations at this moment in time we are very much making enhancements to drive efficiencies throughout the business.”
