The Scottish pharmaceutical label specialist’s new press - a £500,000 investment - is the first in the UK of its exact configuration, having been customised for CV.

The FB-350, a seven-colour flexo press, has had an inserter added that makes it possible for CV to create multi-page ‘peel and read’ labels with different substrates.

Bob Veitch, owner and managing director of CV Labels, said the company had needed more volume and more colours on its production line to keep up with demand.

He told Printweek: “We do specialist pharmaceutical [labels] so we’ve been busy for the last four to five years.

“We’re increasing our turnover every month in the pharmaceutical [business], so we’re going from strength to strength. That was partly the reason for the investment in the press, to keep up with demand. We’re just flying at the moment.”

The new Nilpeter joins two other Nilpeter devices at CV’s 1,950sqm Irvine site, alongside a Mark Andy Digital One digital press and Comco Captain flexo press.

“We went for the wider model,” explained Veitch, “so we could get more across the press. They’ve now introduced servo motors on the FB-350, so it was an all-singing, all-dancing, wider press for us.”

To install the press, CV had to upgrade its electrical supply. Once in, it required about a week’s training for staff to get used to the machine’s new capabilities, Veitch said.

Nick Hughes, managing director of Nilpeter UK, added: “I have known Bob for ages, and we have always had a great partnership.

“It’s always nice to see that our customer’s business is growing, and we are very happy to help them find the right solution in order for them to meet the constantly increasing demands of their customers. We managed to do it this time, and I am confident we will continue to do it in the future as well.”

CV Labels employs 26 staff with a turnover of nearly £4m.
