CPI Antony Rowe chosen for beta site of new HP web press

CPI Antony Rowe is set to be among the first sites in the world to install HP's groundbreaking inkjet web press PrintWeek can confirm.

HP announced earlier in the week that CPI, alongside two US printers, had signed a beta programme for the high-speed digital press but it was not clear at which of its 15 sites it would be installed.

CPI UK chief executive Mike Taylor has now confirmed that the company has provisionally planned to install the press at its Wiltshire site.

The HP Inkjet Web Press is expected to be commercially available in 2009 and can print at speeds up to 122 metres per minute, or the equivalent of 2,600 letter-size pages per minute.

Taylor said the company was currently exploring the possible finishing lines that could accompany the press.

Aurelio Maruggi, vice president and general manager of HP's Inkjet High-speed Production Solutions, said: "As Europe's top book printer, CPI has the unique vantage point and experience to provide HP with expert feedback and advice.

"Throughout this collaborative process, HP will continue to provide CPI with the very best technology and support."

The beta agreement complements CPI's investment in a new press and Muller Martini kit at this year's Drupa.

"These are long term investments," saidTaylor.
