CPG rounds off Agfa pre-press investment drive

CPG has concluded its installation of a range of new pre-press kit and software from Agfa.

Around the start of 2019 the Tonbridge-based company took on Agfa’s Apogee workflow system to drive a new Avalon N4 platesetter imaging Azura TU plates through to the CX85 clean-out unit.

“The Azura plate rinse gum unit offers us a chemistry-free process, which is great for the environment,” said director Steve Kirkham.

“But it was the Apogee suite of workflow management products that really swung the deal to Agfa for us. It enables us to control every phase of the production process from a single user interface. It keeps an overview of our PDF files with Preflight and calculated ideal impositions with Impose.”

Two months ago, CPG then installed Agfa’s PressTune and InkTune software tools, which the business said “have already delivered impressive environmental benefits and cost savings”.

InkTune and PressTune have been developed to reduce consumption of paper, ink and energy while improving output quality.

All of the Agfa hardware and software installed at CPG this year, which was supplied by Litho Supplies, “has speeded everything right up” according to pre-press manager Mark Hall.

“Proofing is much quicker, and we haven’t had any problems with the platesetter whatsoever. It’s a great little system,” he said.

“Training has been good and the online is very good in the sense that if you make a phone call, they get back to you very quickly. They dial in and are willing to show you as well as just put things right.”

26-staff CPG started as a four-colour litho printer in 1986 and today operates two Komori five-colour litho presses, a Xerox iGen for shorter runs, secure printing and personalisation, and Roland DG wide-format kit. It serves clients across the car industry, leisure and professional sectors.
