Chapelton to offer Smurfit Kappa’s Grease Guard Food cartonboard

Speciality paper and cartonboard supplier Chapelton Board will exclusively distribute Smurfit Kappa’s Grease Guard Food folding cartonboard to the UK packaging sector.

The special grease-resistant grade, which is available with immediate effect, has been specifically designed for packaging that is in direct contact with all food types.

It contains no perfluorocarbons (PFC's), is recyclable as a mono material, is biodegradable and compostable and its production content originates from FSC-certified sources.

Grease Guard Food, which is produced at Smurfit Kappa’s Hoya mill in Germany, is available in weights of 300-500gsm.

According to Chapelton, the product's grease- and moisture-resistant qualities make it suitable for dry, moist and fatty food contact in both food and drink packaging. It is also suitable for consumer goods, industrial packaging and pharmaceutical packaging, said the firm.

Grease Guard Food is made from recycled material and has two levels of grease resistance content. One is for fast food packaging purposes while the other, Grease Guard High, can be used where greater barriers are needed, such as for pet food packaging.

Smurfit Kappa’s migration barrier MB12, which Chapelton also recently started stocking, can be added to the Grease Guard range for increased barriers to organic and sensory migrants.

Chapelton Board business development director Neil Skelton said: "We are excited to have landed the exclusive distribution for this unique product, which again will fit in perfectly with the range of packaging products that we handle."

Aylesford, Kent-based Chapelton, which has a turnover of £11m, has also recently began to stock and distribute International Paper’s new GC2 lightweight coated board product Alaska Plus in the UK.
