Bristol signage printer increases quality with Mimaki buy

Bristol-based Create Signs has improved its quality of output after investing in a Mimaki CJV300-160 print-and-cut machine.

The company, which specialises in the design and production of interior and external signs, took delivery of the new machine around six weeks ago. It was supplied by Graphic Printing Technologies (GPT).

The 1.6m-wide roll-to-roll CJV300-160 features Epson variable drop-on-demand printheads in a staggered array. The machine can print at a maximum speed of 105.9sqm/hr and has a maximum resolution of 1,440dpi.

The CJV300-160 has replaced a Mimaki CJV30-160 as Create’s main production device, though the company has also retained that machine as a backup. It also operates a Rollsroller flatbed applicator as well as cutting and laminating equipment.

Create Signs joint director Andy Fogg, who runs the business alongside Ian Lamont, said: “We’d had our previous machine for five years so we decided it was time to upgrade. We went to Sign & Digital UK earlier this year with the intention of purchasing a machine and placed the order at the show.

“We did a bit of research before we went to the show but we were very impressed with the Mimaki we had before so our decision making was led by that.”

He added: “The new machine has brought additional quality to our print output and a much more vibrant finished product. We’ve always been a quality-led company and the better our quality is, the better product we’re delivering, which is a win-win for everybody.”

Create Signs, which was established in 2002 and has 10 staff, operates from a 325sqm unit in the Langford area of Bristol. The firm serves clients including universities, colleges and schools as well as retailers. It also produces work for Bristol Airport and is a preferred supplier for Bristol City Council.
