AGI-Shorewood produces packaging for Twilight DVD

Media packaging specialist AGI-Shorewood has helped to bring the latest film in the popular Twilight saga to the UK market on DVD and Blu-ray.

The company manufactured inlays and 'O-Ring' wraps, including a lenticular version, for The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1, and produced limited edition art cards for exclusive packaging that is being sold via play.com.

AGI-Shorewood handled the whole process from structural and graphic packaging design through to wet-proofing and manufacturing. It has so far produced in excess of 1.5m inlays and wraps for the film, which sold just under one million units in its first week of release in the UK.

The company’s digital team developed a weather widget, an application for use with Android mobile phone operating systems, which counted down the days for the DVD/Blu-ray release of the film and features the main characters with the background changing accordingly from dawn, dusk and night time. Customers could use the application to pre-order the product.

AGI-Shorewood sales manager Malcolm Swindell said: "We manufactured the inlays at our plant in Warsaw, Poland, using a Manroland seven-colour and produced the special packaging at our Slough facility using a six-colour Heidelberg Speedmaster. The project involved a lengthy technical process to ensure we got the colour consistency right across the whole range and produced a homogenous product.

"The lenticular version needed a lot of wet-proofing to ensure maximum shelf presence and a lot of consulting with our client, Entertainment One, to ensure we achieved the best possible quality with the final product."
