Agfa expands wide-format range with OEM cutting table

Agfa Graphics has launched its first wide-format cutting table, the Acorta, following an OEM deal with Italian manufacturer Elitron.

The Acorta adds finishing to Agfa's existing wide-format product range of Anapurna and Jeti printers, Asanti workflow suite and A-Sign flexible media for solvent and UV-cured inks.

Dominiek Arnout, vice-president of Agfa Graphics' Inkjet business, said: "We are developing an all-integrated approach in which our customers can add an extra in-house finishing step, all driven from Asanti.

"Rendering, printing and cutting in one workflow allows them to be more productive, more efficient suppliers with a higher return on investment for their business."

The Acorta features a 102m/min maximum cutting speed and a solid cellular steel structure that eliminates vibration or bending in the traverse beam. A multi-tool cutting head enables cutting, creasing and milling of substrates up to 50mm thick.

It is available in two models: the Acorta HS 3120 and the Acorta HS 2016. The HS 3120 has 40 individual vacuum sectors on its 3.1x2m working area, while the HS 2016 has 20 vacuum sectors on its 2x1.6m bed.

Other features include a camera recognition system that recognises the printed images, loads the related cutting files and identifies the position of the reference points, enabling the operator to place the sheet anywhere on the working area.

A video projection system projects the printed image and cutting shapes onto the sheet to enable a simple visual check by the operator and to optimise material yield from off-cuts.

The Acorta can cut a wide variety of materials, including Forex, Dibond, PVC, plastics, films, re-board, card and cardboard boxes, corrugated cardboard and foam.
