Xerox ups speed of Nuvera range with launch of 157EA and 314EA

Xerox has upgraded its Nuvera cut-sheet mono digital press portfolio with the launch of two new devices, the single-engine Nuvera 157EA and the dual-engine perfecting Nuvera 314EA.

The presses, which have a rated speed of 157ipm and 314ipm respectively, raise the production bar for the Nuvera range from the previous 144ipm and 288ipm of the 144EA and 288EA.

Xerox Graphic Communications UK & Ireland general manager Mike Holyoake said the two new devices, which are primarily aimed at the transactional and books markets, would drag more continuous feed applications into cut-sheet territory.

"It expands the point at which continuous feed and cut-sheet cross over and allows us to look at which option is the best fit for the application rather than the volume," he said.

"Short-run digital book printing is an area where we're seeing an awful lot of growth at the moment and we see the 157 and the 314 playing a big part there together with our Xerox 650 and 1300 continuous feed printers."

The Nuvera 314EA has a monthly duty cycle of up to 7.8m impressions, compared to 4.7m impressions for the 157EA; recommended average monthly volumes are 4m and 2.2m impressions respectively.

As well as the speed increase, new features on the latest additions to the Nuvera range include a production stacker, which unloads finished applications while the system is still operating, permitting larger capacity jobs to be printed without the need for manual intervention.

Both presses, which were unveiled ahead of this week's Graph Expo, can print on a range of paper weights, from 56-250gsm, without reducing speed, and can handle sheet sizes from 140x203mm to 320x490mm.

Xerox has also updated its Xerox FreeFlow Print Server DFE with new security standards, user interface enhancements and improvements to processing TIFF images on selected mainframe data streams.

Both devices are available for ordering and installation worldwide immediately, although UK/EU pricing has yet to be confirmed; the US list price for the 157EA is $257,000 (£160,000) and for the 314EA is $420,000 (£260,000).
